Wolf Packs of Fate: Garrett Pack 2
Fighting the Pack
Willa Michaels knows shifters exist. Now she has decided she wants to mate a werewolf and have him change her, making her part of his pack. She is ready to capture the werewolf of her dreams. Yet, when she sees three better-than-chocolate cowboy werewolves, she ups her game, ready to claim all three.
Werewolf friends Grant Standard, Ryan Rysling, and Thomas Ash are surprised when Willa asks them to be her mates. They would be happy to claim her. There’s one problem, though: she has already been hanging out with the pack’s lead alpha, Moses Garrett, and he has been telling everyone that she is his mate.
Willa sets Moses straight, telling him he is not the one for her. Moses, however, never takes no for an answer. As the pack begins to split apart, ready to do battle for control, the men have to decide. Will they save Willa? Or will they fight the pack?

Chapter One
Willa Michaels sat back and watched the show of shifters carousing in The Wolf’s Den. After having arrived in Fate over a week earlier, she was pleased that she’d already gotten better at telling who was a shifter and who was a human. The flecks of amber that sparkled in the eyes whenever a person became upset, angry, or turned-on were always a giveaway. So were the tips of fangs peeking over a lower lip. Even better, she was learning to pick up on the more subtle signs like the way a person walked. Werecats tended to be more graceful than werewolves while werewolves were more aggressive, often sauntering into a full-blown swagger.
Her gaze slipped from one person to the next then landed on a man standing with his back against the wall, his dark eyes scanning the interior in a calculated way. She wasn’t as adept at picking out vampires as she was shifters, but she was fairly certain that Evan Grange was a vamp. She quickly averted her gaze as he looked her way.
Besides, he’d already found his mate. Plus, she wanted werewolves as her mates, not a cold-blooded soul of a man like a vampire.
“Do you want another one, sugar?”
“Sure.” She’d almost forgotten about the man sitting across from her. As much as she didn’t feel like it, she forced her lips into a smile for Moses Garrett. When she’d first arrived, she’d run into Moses on the outskirts of town. He’d helped her with an overheated radiator and had, at the time, seemed like a nice guy. His rugged, almost so-ugly-he’s-cute good looks with his dark hair and eyes didn’t hurt, either. Since then, however, she’d seen how he acted around others and didn’t like it. Underneath the fake charm he’d shown her, he was a full-on bully and dickhead.
Mistake one was not realizing what an ass he was earlier. Mistake two was continuing to hang around him. Yet, not only was he part of a werewolf pack, he was their primary alpha. Being with him got her closer to the other men in the pack.
Not Carl, though. Carl sidled up to the table, started to sit down, then scurried away when Moses snarled. The snarl was more like a growl, but she pretended as though she hadn’t noticed.
“Girl, two more here.”
Willa shot the pretty waitress an apologetic look. Moses tended to call all women either “girl” or “bitch.” The waitress caught her eye, gave an almost imperceptible nod, then kept on moving to the next table. She guessed Moses didn’t realize that his demands would only make the waitress less enthusiastic about getting their next round.
“So, sugar, how do you like staying with Henrietta and her men?”
“It’s cool. They’re rea
lly nice.”
Thanks to Moses, she’d been able to forgo the local B&B, thus saving her money, and stay with one of the pack families. Henrietta with her pale skin and light red hair was the last person Willa would’ve ever thought could be a shifter, but there she was, mated and changed by Bull, Roger, and Gunther Janks. Henrietta had even taken on their last name, something not all female shifters did. Although it wasn’t very private in their small home, the setup gave Willa more chances to observe the werewolves. Sooner or later, one of them was bound to shift in front of her.
Part of her felt bad that she’d kept her knowledge of shifters a secret. Yet she’d wanted to get to know a person as a human before meeting their shifter half. Henrietta and her men would forgive her. She glanced at Moses. He, however, was a different story. The man was unpredictable.
“They’d better be.” Moses downed half of his beer then peered at the bottle. “If they know what’s good for them.”
If she’d known Henrietta and her men had been coerced into taking her in, she never would’ve stayed. But Henrietta had assured her several times that, although it was Moses’s idea to offer their place, she enjoyed having another woman in the house.
Willa ignored what he’d said, knowing if she said anything, she’d probably say too much. Instead, she accepted the drink the waitress put in front of her. Surely, somewhere in all the amazing, handsomeness surrounding her, she’d find at least one werewolf she’d connect with. Two would be even better. Three would be downright amazing.
The Hardwick brothers were three of the hottest men she’d seen so far. Unfortunately, her luck was still running cold. They’d already found their mate in the gorgeous blonde, Raven Reynolds. Her attention lingered, appreciating them for their great looks, then moved on.
Come on. Give me someone new to consider.
She’d dragged Moses to The Wolf’s Den three nights running and had figured out that a lot of their customers were regulars. A lot of them, like the Hardwicks, were already spoken for.
Was she wasting her time? She’d done enough research and had managed to locate several towns where shifters outnumbered humans. Hell, she’d already visited three of those towns and had come up empty. Was Fate destined to be the fourth failure?
Finding out that shifters existed hadn’t come along in the usual way. Most humans found out when the shifter wanted to mate them. She’d found out her sophomore year of college when her roommate and her boyfriend had gotten into squabble and had ended up shifting. Terrified, she’d run screaming out of the rental house they’d shared. But by the time she’d calmed down enough to tell anyone about the werewolves in a coherent way, she’d realized they’d probably lock her up as a crazy person instead of calling out the National Guard. Her very apologetic roommate had tracked her down—literally—and explained that shifters of all kinds existed everywhere in the world. Although Willa had sworn she’d be all right living with a shifter, her roommate had moved out as soon as possible.
Yet the fascination had remained. She’d started studying tales about werewolves, werecats, fairies, and other incredible beings, eager to know all she could. The more she studied, the more she was certain she wanted not only to become a werewolf, but to be mated to a werewolf.
She’d spent hours fantasizing about everything a werewolf could do. Running under the stars and moon, possessing powerful strength as well as having hearing and sight greater than any human’s. Being wild and free. As far as she was concerned, being part human and part wolf would give her the best of both worlds. Once she was a shifter, it only made sense that she’d want to mate with another shifter. How much easier would life be if they were the same?
“How about we go back to my place tonight?” Moses leaned closer. “Hell, you can dump Henrietta and move in with me instead. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that first.”
“Because you’re a nice guy and didn’t want to ruin my sterling reputation?” She’d learned fast that cracking a joke was a good way to keep Moses’s temper in check. From what she’d gathered, he’d become the lead alpha with his father’s passing, not because of his sparkling personality. Maybe the power had gone to his head and, underneath the brusque exterior, there was a sweet man she could learn to like.
Yeah, right.
Moses chuckled, but his mirth died away fast. “What are you three doing here?”
She felt them even before she jerked her attention upward.
Now we’re talking.
Tall and breathtakingly handsome. They were the perfect examples of her kind of man. Two of them had thick dark hair with soul-searching brown eyes. The third, the counterpoint to the other two, had blond hair with the mussed bedroom look that always made her warm between the legs. Blue eyes, shaded by long lashes any woman would kill for, landed on her and held. If she stood up, she was sure they would tower over her five-foot-seven-inch frame by at least six inches.
The blond was the first to pay any attention to Moses. “What’s the problem? We’re not allowed to grab a cool drink?”
The other two didn’t respond as nicely. Instead, they glared at Moses, their dislike for him more than obvious.
“Who’s this?” asked one of the dark-haired ones. His eyes glittered with amber.
Werewolf. She studied his friends, taking in the way they held their bodies. Casual yet ready for action. Yeah. Definitely werewolves.
She didn’t wait for Moses to introduce her. She wasn’t even sure he would. Instead, she put on her prettiest smile and zeroed in on the blond. “I’m Willa Michaels, and I’m new in town. And who are you guys?” The question “are you three part of the pack?” almost slipped out before she caught herself. It was too early to reveal that she knew what they were.
“Willa.” The blonde’s smile was almost as enticing as his blue eyes. “I’m glad you’re here. I’m Thomas Ash, and these hounds are my friends Grant Standard and Ryan Rysling.”
“The real question is why you’re hanging around with Moses Garrett.”
At any other time, Grant’s remark might have seemed a good-natured jab at a friend. But there was no jovial note in his tone. Moses wasn’t the brightest guy she’d ever met, but even he didn’t miss Grant’s meaning.
“Fuck off, man. Remember who you’re talking to.”
Which meant, of course, that Grant wasn’t a primary alpha like Moses. As much as she wanted to ask what his ranking was, she resisted the urge. So far, listening to other people’s conversations had taught her everything she knew. The muscle in Grant’s jaw twitched, but he kept silent.
He’s smart.
Maybe someone else might have seen his silence as weakness, but she knew better. An intelligent man knew when to speak and when to hold his tongue.
Ryan moved quickly around Moses to come to her side. “Don’t let these two kids’ bickering throw you off.” He winked, the simple gesture sending a thrill through her. “We’re a lot nicer than we look.” A wicked, deadly sexy smile formed on his lips. “And really bad when we want to be.”
“Back off. She’s with me.” A low growl rumbled out of Moses.
How could anyone not know these guys are werewolves?
The idea of their wolves lying just under the surface excited her. Women of all ages dreamed about a manly man, the kind of man who was a gentleman in public but an animal in bed. She slicked her tongue over her lips, realized what she was doing, then took a quick drink to cover. The last thing she wanted them to think was that she was with Moses. At least not in the way Moses had implied.
“Moses has been very nice to me. He’s a good friend, introducing me around. He even introduced me to Henrietta Janks, who very kindly asked me to stay with her.” In one fell swoop, she’d managed to tell them that she and Moses weren’t together romantically and where she was staying. She couldn’t have been clearer if she’d held up a sign.
“With Henrietta, huh?” Thomas slipped into the chair next to her and earned yet another growl from Moses. “So do you have famil
y in the area?”
He was subtly asking if she had anyone who had clued her in. Did she know about Fate and most of its citizens? That was his real question. “No. I didn’t know anyone until I met Moses.”
Finding a small article about Fate and its stories of supernatural creatures while doing her research had been a lucky stroke. She’d known right away that the town was a haven for shifters.
Damn, he smells good.
She resisted the urge to lick her lips again.
Real good.
“Do you three live around here?” It was a stupid question. How else would they have known about Moses or frequented the bar? Still, she’d had to say something.
They were dressed like everyone else, in worn jeans and plain shirts followed up with boots that had seen their fair share of wear and tear, but that didn’t mean they were ranchers. Still, one look at Thomas’s hand as he took her beer and finished it for her made it clear enough. They were the real deal. The calluses were his resume.
“We own the Lucky Star Ranch about ten miles outside of town.”
“Everyone owns a fucking ranch around here. It’s not a big deal.” Moses chortled then added, “Their ranch isn’t much, either. Just a few hundred acres of dried-out brush.”
That hit a nerve. Thomas stiffened in his chair while Ryan’s and Grant’s expressions deepened into glowers.
She jumped in, wanting to avoid a conflict. “I’m sure it’s a fine ranch. With you three working it, how could it not be?”
